Race Weekend Coming Up at Dover Speedway

May 14th through 16th will be a busy weekend in Dover.  Fans from all over will descend on the state capital for Race Weekend.  Dover International Speedway is located in the northern part of Dover, near Dover Downs Casino and the Dover Mall.  Twice a year, NASCAR races take place here.  People make a weekend of it, camping out in the parking lots surrounding the racetrack or staying over in nearby hotels.  It is quite an event for NASCAR fans.

There are races and activities happening all weekend and traffic in the area could be heavy, but if you'd like to experience a NASCAR race event, this would be a great chance to do so!

Dover Days Festival - April 30, May 1 - 2

If you haven't visited the state capital of Dover, this weekend is a great time to do it!  The 77th annual Dover Days festival takes place this weekend.

There will be a lot going on -- a parade, carnival rides, exhibits, tours of historic homes, food, craft vendors and great children's activities.  There is no admission fee for the Festival itself, but there are fees charged for some things, like the carnival rides and tours.  To get a complete listing of all the events going on this weekend, click here.

The events will take place on the Green and Legislative Mall and there are shuttles that will be running to different spots throughout the festival.  These two areas are surrounded by many of the state's government buildings and is a very historic area.

Wilmington Flower Market - May 6th through 8th

A Delaware tradition is coming up very soon--the Wilmington Flower Market! The Flower Market has taken place every Mother's Day weekend since the 1920s. There is always a large variety of plants and flowers available to buy, as well as crafts, food and live music, sponsored by local radio station, WSTW. There are also rides for the kids. Proceeds from the Flower Market go to various charities that help children throughout Delaware.

It's the perfect place to pick up a last-minute Mother's Day gift!

The Flower Market runs from Thursday through Saturday, May 6th through May 8th. It's open from 10 am to 7 pm each day. The Market takes place at Rockford Park in Wilmington.

Ag Day at UD today!

Looking for something to do today? Check out Ag Day at the University of Delaware today from 10 am to 4 pm. All the festivities take place on South Campus, near the Field House and stadium.

There are educational exhibits, games and activities for the kids, some of UD's farm animals on display, hayrides, plant sales, live bands and food.

It's usually a pretty good time, and kids love it! Plus, admission and parking are FREE.

Delaware Children's Museum Now Open!

This weekend marks the opening of the Delaware Children's Museum on the waterfront in Wilmington. I'm hoping to get up there at some point. There are several exhibits about the human body, how to build things and--a sign of the times--an eco-friendly exhibit. It looks like lots of hands-on learning and fun for kids of all ages. This can also be a great rainy day activity, too!

The museum is open 362 days a year from 9 am to 4:30 pm. Admission is $12 (kids 12 months and under are free). It's located at 550 Justison Street, near Frawley Stadium and all the other Riverfront attractions. For those of you familiar with the area, it's in in the old "Big Kahuna" building. It's very easy to get to from I-95.

Parking is free and across the street from the restaurant parking lots.

For directions and more information about the museum, visit their website.
